In line with the collection, Converse is proud to partner with organizations—Boyle Heights Arts Conservatory (BHAC), Homeboy Industries, Las Fotos Project and ZUMIX — throughout 2020 in Boston and Los Angeles, with a particular focus on creativity and civic leadership for young women and girls.

¡Mi Gente! My people; It's a song, a group you identify
with, a culture, and an invitation to celebrate.

Para Mi Gente Linda

Every product highlights a different story. Like the Bomba dancers of Puerto Rico, the Mirabal Sisters who in the fight of their lives became symbols of both democratic and feminist resistance, and the women celebrating Mexican American heritage unapologetically.

Sentrock
"As a Mexican-American I wanted to show that my culture is not limited to novelty items such as sugar skulls, etc."

Converse Mi Gente Collection

"I wanted to show a kid on a
bike to show a traveling
adventurous character with
a banner flying that says "Mi
Gente con Suenos", My
People with Dreams."

Ruth Mora
"I feel like mi gente, is people that make you feel warm and at home like regardless whether you know them or not."

Converse Mi Gente Collection

"The girl with hoops in my
design is a classic young
Chicanx femme figure. I feel
that hoops and big hair are a
staple in LA femme culture.
The corn is an homage to
elote street vendors. My dad
was into classic cars and low
riders, so I grew up around
classic car culture."

By the Latinx Community

We invited several members of the Converse
Latinx community to celebrate their identity via
a pair of custom ¡Mi Gente! Chucks.

"I chose the colors Egret and Black inspired by Brazilians' skin colors. For me, the beauty of Brazil is that my country is formed by diversity, which extends to my family, friends, and to everyone I know."

— Felipe Oliveira, Skateboarder, Brazil

"I wanted to keep it simple. I added the year I was born, and blue is my favorite color, which also goes well with the Guatemalan flag colors of White and Blue."

— Louie Lopez, Skateboarder, Guatemala

"My custom Chucks celebrate an intense time in colors, music and contexts in Brazil. The time when Caetano Veloso told us that ‘"it’s forbidden to forbid". The time before my time. My custom Chuck celebrates the ‘"Tropicália’" in Brazil."

— Vitória Bortolo, Skateboarder, Brazil

"I think my country is very diverse and rich, so I wanted to show this through the different textures and colors. I loved the Mi Gente print and the contrast that it made with black, the rainbow patch caught my attention from the beginning, it perfectly represents Peru and my people, we are all very different and special, but our river and mountains unite us."

— Mina Jeri, Designer/Creator, Peru

"I always like simple stuff so I chose the colors to match the Argentinian flag (blue and white) and then I wrote my hometown area code with the name of the street that I grow up on."

— Milton Martinez, Skateboarder, Argentina

"I was heavily inspired by Honduras when I made this shoe, and it was more made to reflect the spirit. The top and bottom blue stripes on the flag represent the sky, the oceans, and brotherhood."

— Miller Peñaflor, Skateboarder/Illustrator, Honduras

"In Aqua Blue I saw the menthol in my house every day of my life, it feels like this is the cure for anything. The Casino Red is the sangre - the bloodline - the blood sweat tears mentality I have. With the Amarillo Yellow - I think about the island, I think about the sun shinin' on us."

– Overtime Larry, Creator/Host,
Puerto Rico/Dominican Republic

"I chose this color palette because I think it represents the racial diversity in Latin America, every Latin skin color is represented in the chosen ones for the sneaker, mixing them in a perfect, beautiful way."

— Pía Balbontín,
Fashion + Event Producer, Chile
